Based on this data and the resulting discussion, the study found that galleries in the Lithuanian market displayed slightly better sales performance than galleries in the other markets, and that Lithuanian galleries also invest more relational capital evidenced through trust, respect and an openness to cooperating with others outside the gallery. Online search techniques were used to map the gallery markets, and surveys and semi-structured interviews were then conducted to collect data to satisfy these aims. The study aims to compare success and market behaviour, as well as investments of relational capital by key players in these three markets in order to identify the role of relational capital in contributing to success for individuals and the gallery markets in the Baltic states. In light of this situation, this study conducted a mixed-method quantitative-qualitative study of the gallery markets in all three Baltic states as a post- communist research setting with a similar historical and institutional background in order to compare these three markets. This situation and the diminutive size of the gallery market in Estonia created a deadlock in the sector by the second decade of the new millennium. The process of adjusting to the neoliberal paradigm and free-market economy adopted after Estonia regained its independence and left the Soviet command economy has not been as successful for Estonian visual arts galleries compared to most enterprises in the other sectors of the economy.
